Terms of Service

SilentBox (“we”, “us”, “the Service”) provides private cloud storage, shareable drops, and ephemeral photo/video rooms. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.

1. Who we are

SilentBox is an independent online storage and sharing service operated at silentbox.net. These Terms form a binding agreement between you and the operator of SilentBox.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age required in your country) to use the Service. If you use SilentBox on behalf of an organization, you confirm you have authority to bind that organization.

3. Your account

You are responsible for your login credentials, devices, and activity under your account. Keep your password and room access codes private. Notify us via the Help page if you believe your account was compromised.

4. Plans and billing

Paid plans are billed through Stripe. One active paid plan applies per account; upgrading replaces the previous plan rather than stacking charges. Fees are shown on the Plans page. Taxes may apply. Refunds, if any, are handled case-by-case via support. Cancel anytime in the billing portal; access continues until the end of the paid period unless otherwise stated by Stripe. If a renewal payment fails or the subscription ends, you generally have 24 hours to download your files before they are removed from your account; operational copies may remain until the operator backup sync completes.

5. User content — important

You alone control what you upload, share, or display. SilentBox is a technical host. We do not review, endorse, or control files, photos, videos, messages, or other content that users put on the Service (“User Content”).

• You represent that you own or have all rights needed to upload and share your User Content.
• You are solely responsible for User Content and for how recipients use links, drops, and rooms you create.
• We are not responsible for illegal, harmful, infringing, defamatory, or otherwise objectionable User Content uploaded by you or others.
• We do not guarantee that User Content will remain available, encrypted beyond our stated technical measures, or recoverable after deletion, expiry, or room wipe.

6. License to operate the Service

You grant us a limited license to store, encrypt, transmit, and display User Content solely as needed to operate SilentBox (including owner backup/sync for operational continuity and abuse response). This license ends when content is purged from our systems, subject to legal retention requirements.

7. Acceptable use

You must follow the Acceptable Use Policy. If content or an account clearly violates these Terms or the law, we may remove that content or restrict the account. We do not monitor private files for everyday use.

8. Drops and rooms

Drops may expire or hit download limits you set. “Forever” drops remain until you delete them or leave the plan’s forever-slot limit. Rooms are ephemeral for viewers: when the last connected viewer leaves, media is wiped from the room for users (operational copies may briefly remain for backup/abuse handling). Guests without accounts may view room media if they have the link and any required access code.

9. Security and privacy

We use encryption at rest and standard transport security. No online service is perfectly secure. You are responsible for passwords, access codes, and who you share links with. See our Privacy Policy.

10. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not warrant uninterrupted access, error-free operation, or that User Content will be free from loss or unauthorized access.

11. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SilentBox and its operator are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service or from User Content uploaded by anyone. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amounts you paid us in the three months before the claim or (b) USD $50.

12. Indemnity

You agree to defend and indemnify SilentBox and its operator against claims, damages, and costs (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your User Content, your misuse of the Service, or your violation of these Terms or applicable law.

13. DMCA / copyright

If you believe content on SilentBox infringes your copyright, send a notice via the Help page with: your contact info, description of the work, location of the material (URL if possible), a good-faith statement, and your signature. We may remove content and disable repeat infringers as appropriate.

14. Changes

We may update these Terms. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Terms. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date on this page.
